Compact & Box-Type Substations

Prefabricated box-type, European-style and American-style compact substations, 10–35 kV, up to 5,000 kVA, integrating MV switchgear, transformer and LV distribution in one enclosure.

23 products

A compact substation packs medium-voltage switching, the transformer and low-voltage distribution into one factory-built, factory-tested enclosure that is set down on a plinth close to the load. Millenium builds European-style three-compartment boxes with a ring main unit, an oil-immersed or cast-resin transformer and an LV board; American-style pad-mounted packages with integrated switching; and photovoltaic and wind step-up ("booster") substations that take inverter output up to 10–35 kV for grid connection.

Ratings run from 50 kVA to 5,000 kVA at 10, 11, 12, 15, 20, 22, 24, 33 and 35 kV, built to IEC 62271-202 with the enclosure class, IP rating, anti-condensation heating and corrosion protection the climate calls for. Containerised and skid-mounted variants suit mining, construction and temporary power.

Compact Substations — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a European-style and an American-style compact substation?

A European box has three separate compartments — MV ring main unit, transformer and LV switchboard — accessed from outside; an American-style unit is a pad-mounted transformer with the MV switching and fusing built into its own cabinet, so it is smaller and cheaper but offers less LV distribution. Millenium builds both to IEC 62271-202.

What voltage and capacity ranges do Millenium compact substations cover?

10–35 kV on the medium-voltage side and 50 kVA to 5,000 kVA transformer ratings, with 0.4 kV, 0.415 kV, 0.48 kV, 0.69 kV or 0.8 kV secondaries for distribution, industrial and inverter step-up duties.

Can the substation be delivered with the switchgear and transformer already tested together?

Yes. Each substation is assembled, wired and routine-tested as a complete unit in Shanghai, and customers or third-party inspectors can witness the factory acceptance test before shipment.

Can’t find the exact rating?

The catalogue shows typical configurations. Every product is built to order — send your single-line diagram or spec and we will quote the exact unit.
